To me, one of his most revealing claims is that the stars will fall to the earth. Of course at the time of his writing, people didn't know just how big and far away the stars really are. To them, they were just little lights in the sky. But if his "visions" where really coming from an omniscient god, wouldn't he have known?
Here are the verses in question:
Revelation 6:13 And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.
Revelation 8:10 And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters;
Revelation 9:1 And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit.
Revelation 12:4 And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born.

in the last strip, you were supposed to write were not where...correct before a christian catches it
Hey, in the last strip you were supposed to write... ah, darn it. An atheist got to it before me. Oh well.
Hey, it's very possible that John was describing meteors in the book of Revelation. In fact, that whole book is of him trying to describe visions of things that he has never seen before! With the understanding of phenomena of a person from that time, it seems like a pretty good attempt to describe what he's seeing.
Honestly, it sounds like you think that Christians have gone all these years without having perfectly reasonable explenations for all these things. Emphasis on "perfectly reasonable" - they are!
Exactly! John was describing a dream, maybe even a chemically induced dream. Isn't that much more likely than him having a supernatural revelation?
And yes, I do think christians have gone all this time without reasonable explanations. These are not reasonable.
If you had a dream about the end of the world, would you assume god was trying to tell you something or that it was just a dream? Honestly?
You do realize that this is the same John who spent time with Jesus Christ himself, right? Who was with him through his ministry, his death, and his resurrection?
This isn't just some guy who had a dream, decided to write about it, and behold! It's magically in scripture! If I had a dream about the end of the world, I would most likely dismiss it as a dream. Hard to say, though, since I haven't had an experience like that.
If God is real, then something like this is perfectly reasonable.
So one third of the stars of heaven are cast into earth - I mean John is pretty specific here - they must be very tiny meteors no? I am not even going to go into the whole dragon devouring the baby thing. Thats perfectly reasonablething for a Christian to believe.
btw - there have been questions on whether the author of John is really the same John that "was with him through his ministry, his death, and his resurrection. or were you just trying to prove a point that your Biblical Knowledge is greater than the blogger her?
But dont worry - we are sure that your much esteemed and patented True Approach to biblical scholarship will show without a doubt that everything you say is 100% God approved. Admittedly though, you have to wait until we all die or Kingdom come to prove your point of course.
lets hope those greek orthodox dudes arent right. Fingers crossed!
errata - author of revelations i mean. Oops looks like i am no longer divinely inspired. :D
Oh my gosh guys...this was a dream not an exact foretelling of what will happen. Man, you guys will grab at any thread you can find. The Bible is inspired. I want to reiterate what phinehas said: this was not just some random guy...this was someone God had given some sort of wisdom to.
I'm glad you admit it was just a dream, because that's what I've been saying for years. It was just a fucking dream!
So why do you Christians insist on taking it literally and preaching about the end of the world and scaring the crap out of all the innocent fools and children?
The Bible is not all literal. Get it through your head. Stop getting all your information about the Bible from crazy fanatic fundamentalists who have distorted the Bible for their own gain. How about rather than just bashing what stupid people think about the Bible you get up and research it for yourself see what intelligent people have to say like Gordon Fee's commentary on 1 Corinthians where he says that men and women are equal. Geez don't sit around bashing something until you have done your own research
I'm confused. You've done your own research or Gordon Fee's research?
